Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar, organized a two-day Paper Mache and Jewellery Making workshop  on September 14- 15 2013; a  total of 73 students  successfully participated in the programmes.

The workshop for first semester students of BA/BBA (Hons.) and B.Com of School of Liberal Studies was held as a part of the Audit Courses - which provides the students an opportunity to learn new skills and gain basic knowledge of various subjects.

At the end of the workshop the participants created beautiful objects like Mask, Pen Stand, Lamp and various shapes of Paper Weights.  Overall, the students enjoyed the workshop learning this eco-friendly art.

“The Paper Mache Art Workshop was an interesting and life enriching activity. We made beautiful shapes with paper like balloons, stars, masks etc. Overall it helped us to increase our creativity,” said a student Vedant Sharma of the School Of Liberal Studies.

Paper Mache has quite a grand history though, being some 1,800 years old. It has been used to create highly decorative and expensive objects.

In the jewellery making workshop, which was attended by 35 enthusiastic first year students of School Of Liberal Studies, the students made jewellery like necklace, bracelet and earrings with the help of beads. This workshop enabled the students to show their creativity.

Summing up her experience of the workshop, student Devanshi Bhansali said: “Jewellery Making Workshop was a wonderful experience. Surprisingly we had tribal people themselves as our mentors. The type of art taught to us was fantastic. It was a great pleasure to learn this art.

Another 2-day workshop on Photography was held at PDPU on   September 28 – 29, in which 42 students learned the basics of photography.

Ketan Modi, from Navgujarat Multicourse Training Institute, Photography Department,  taught the students basic understanding of lights, composition technical, aesthetic aspects of photography working of digital SLR camera, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, WB, exposure,  etc., both theoretically as well as practically. The participants were also taught the art to observe and to see normal things with a different perspective.
