The court on Wednesday convicted 32 people, including Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi and former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani, in the 2002 riot case. Babu Bajrangi is claimed to be main culprit of the case, while Kodnani is MLA from Naroda.
The court had, however, acquitted 29 other accused.
All those convicts have been charged under different sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 302 (murder) and 120B (conspiracy).
Local BJP leaders Kishan Korani, Vipin Panchal, Ashok Sindhi and advocate Raju Chaumal are other convicts of the case.
On February 28, 2002, a day after Sabarmati Express carnage at Godhra station, 97 persons were killed and 33 injured in communal violence at Naroda near Ahmedabad city.
