Sardar Sarovar dam overflowed on Tuesday at midnight. The dam is 122 metres in height and the water levels have reached 127.24 metres. People of 105 villages, located on the coast of Narmada and spread over three districts Bharuch, Vadodara and Rajpipla have been alerted.
Sardar Sarovar dam had received water up to 11.96 lakh cusecs when reports last came in, due to the 12 lakh cusecs of water released from Omkareshwar dam in MP, after heavy rains lashed upper regions of Narmada river.
The increased water supply has also helped the Canal Head Power House and Riverbed Power House generate electricity in full capacity.
The magnificent sight of the overflowing dam is also attracting curious onlookers.
