jamnagar 84 village panchayats declared samras

Jamnagar : A total of 84, out of 302, village panchayats (local self-governed bodies) in Jamnagar district were declared 'samras' (harmonious), after the procedure of filing nominations ended on Wednesday. The proceedings also saw a total of 254 nominations being rejected

Rest of 218 panchayats will go to poll on 3rd February.

'Samaras' is a Gujarat government initiative wherein election of representatives through consensus is encouraged so as to avoid election and related expenditure.

Interestingly, two samras gram panchayats in Kalyanpur taluka - Mangariya and Nagadiya - are women-dominated, i.e. the 'sarpanch' (village head) and all members of panchayat are women.

The taluka-wise break up of 'samaras' panchayts in Jamnagar district is as given below -

Taluka name No. of panchayats
Jamnagar 16
Dwarka 01
Khambhalia 01
Bhanvad 02
Jodia 09
Jamjodhpur 03
Lalpur 06
Kalyanpur 12
Dhrol 10
Kalavad 24
