dispute over interviews being called off at sgu

Surat : Things have not begun well for the Department of Gujarati language at the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU). The interviews for selecting first batch of professors, scheduled for today, were called off on Monday. The decision led to resentment among 80-odd interviewees, but the university maintains that interviews for six posts would be held at a later date.

“Unavoidable circumstanced made us postpone the interviews. Now a new date shall be fixed to hold the interviews”, said Dr. Dakshesh Thakar, vice-chancellor.

But the explanation didn’t go down well with the candidates, some of whom had already reached Surat a day earlier as they came from distant places.  A total of 84 candidates were called to fill up six vacancies, one for the post of Professor, two for Associate Professor and three for the post of Assistant Professor. The interviewees were not satisfied with the decision, though the university authorities did take care to inform them through phone calls and SMS.

Meanwhile, a former syndicate member Dinesh Dasa has claimed that absence of Governor’s nominee on interview board led to the fiasco.

It has to be noted that the procedure to start the Gujarati language department from this academic year got underway after the proposal received government’s nod in June.
