Congress will soon start the procedure of vetting candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat and if all goes well, party will declare first list of 100 candidates by the month-end.
Party sources said that a meeting of observers will be held on August 13 at the party state headquarters, wherein the names of the ticket aspirants would be discussed. Party observers have prepared the list of names after hearing ticket-seekers in district level meetings in past few days.
Short-listing of names will follow for nearly a week and empanelment of probables for each constituency shall be completed by August 20. The vetting procedure commencing thereafter is expected to last for nearly ten days.
On August 30, party’s decision will be conveyed to chosen candidates to enable them start campaign at the earliest possible. Around 100 candidates are expected to be finalised.
Sources also claimed that party has taken assurance from all aspirants that they won’t work against the party interests, in case of being left out. 'Anti-party activities' by those not managing to get tickets is, as usual, a big worry for Congress.
