In the four day affair beginning July 23, all the films will be screened at Cinepolis, Alfa One Mall in Vastrapur. Entry to the festival is free, and passes can be collected from Alliance, Cinepolis or British Council. A favourable response last year has urged the organizers to hold the festival in this state-of-the -art theater.
Europe will showcase its best romantic and contemporary films from 16 nations including Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, UK, Slovakia, Estonia, Lithuania and Hungary.
The audience should have no difficulty relating to contemporary films with English subtitles,” says Chintan Pandya, Cultural coordinator, Alliance Francaise, of these films that were also featured in the ‘European Union Film Festival’.
The festival doesn’t just target the youth, the films have been chosen carefully explains Tasneem Vahanvaty,u23 ‘to appeal to families and children as well’.
Expressing the need to bring the world closer, Phillipe Martin, director of Alliance Francaise says, “Like India, Europe is a rich blend of various cultures. This is a wonderful opportunity for Ahmedabad to watch films that never released in India. This festival will enable greater appreciation of the European art form by an Indian audience.”
“So many of us are waiting to catch up with these films,” says an excited movie buff Janak Jani, “it’s the best way to understand a culture with its customs, fashion, economy, art etc, that one may otherwise never know.”
International films are becoming increasingly popular and going by the response, Amdavadis are geared up to soak up the European experience.
