Jamnagar : The majestic Ajitsinhji Cricket Pavilion will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs. 1.33 crore, if a fresh announcement made by the state government is to be believed.

The announcement for renovation came on Republic Day. It may be recalled that a similar announcement about developing the same venue at the cost of Rs. 1.5 crore was made last year but nothing happened.

With the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) already having approved the proposal in principle around over an year ago, work is expected to start this time around subject to allocation of funds.

The renovation work for the pavilion, known as 'Cricket Bungalow', will follow a master plan. Proposal for the renovation was prepared by the Jamnagar District Sports Coaching Centre with the help of local wing of Roads and Buildings department.

Post-renovation, it will be possible to host local tournaments at Jamnagar ground as the facilities would be augmented to accommodate over 20,000 spectators.

The renovation work for the pavilion, known as 'cricket bunglow' locally, will follow a master plan. The work, to be carried out as per international standards, will include setting up 70 metre boundary line and constructing staircase with five steps. The four corners of the ground will also have practice pitches, besides the mandatory parking facilities outside.
